Planning for the New Year

Plotting A Successful New Year
As the year winds down now is the perfect time to assess what went right for your business and plot out what you'd like to accomplish in the year to come. While you can't read the future, you can take necessary actions to ensure that the coming year is filled with as much success as possible.

What Worked
It's important to revisit all of the past promotions and marketing efforts you tried during the previous twelve months and see whether or not they are worth repeating. You could end up saving hundreds of dollars on marketing by systematically identifying what your customers really responded to and only repeating what was the most successful.

Reallocate Resources
If you are able to reallocate some of your budget from less profitable campaigns, you can use that money to try new creative, different advertising venues or other inventive sales approaches. The only way your marketing dollars will have the biggest impact is through trying alternate campaigns and ideas. You never know whether or not you're sitting on the next biggest break your business is about to achieve unless you explore all of your marketing possibilities.

Think Big
A new year is a great opportunity to determine what growth potential you see for your business. Perhaps this year is when you see yourself adding staff, launching a new product or offering your customers the ability to purchase products directly from your Web site. No matter where you see your business heading, it's vital to identify your goals and then to develop a plan to make your dreams a business reality.

Take Stock
While taking account of your year-end inventory, be sure to see if the level of products you are producing meets your business demands. It doesn't do you any good to be stuck with a warehouse full of stock that isn't selling nor is it advantageous to keep your customers waiting for their orders. If you make products to order, you can still have all of the elements on hand so that you can efficiently fill requests. If you do keep stock, it can be tricky to know how much to have available, but definitely make it a goal to stay on top of your inventory at all times to save on storage costs.

Explore Technology
With the passing of every year, you'll find that there are more and more products available to help you better run your business. Whether it's a new software package that minimizes accounting hassles or a new shipping supply service you haven't explored, the new year gives you a great excuse to shop around for partnerships and sample new technology. You may find that you're right where you need to be, but it's important to check out the latest advancements to make sure your business is working as seamlessly and efficiently as possible.
